VIBRATIONAL SPECTRA OF $SF_{5}Cl$ AND $CF_{3}SF_{5}$

Abstract

Complete infrared and Raman spectral measurements extend the earlier work of Cross, Roberts, Goggin and Woodward on $SF_{5}Cl^{1}$ and of Eggers, Wright and Robinson on $CF_{3}SF_{5}^{2}$ All of the active fundamentals for both molecules have been observed, and reassignments in the case of $SF_{5}Cl$ are made on the basis of the selection rules for a $C_{4v}$ molecule. The data and analysis of the spectrum of $CF_{3}SF_{5}$ strongly support the low barrier model previously suggested on the basis of infrared measurements $alone.^{2}$
