Bust-length portrait of Nazi politician Fritz Sauckel. Text at the bottom reads "Fritz Sauckel, 1894-1946, Plenipotentiary for the Allocation of Labor. By July 1942, 5,124,000 were taken from occupied countries to work in Germany under conditions of slavery." A swastika was substituted for the period after the word "labor." A first-state impression [CMA 2001.034.208] has less background shading around Sauckel's head. The bottom two lines of text are handwritten in black colored pencil, the size and spacing of which were altered for final impressions.
