Abstract

The $CS_{2}$ fluorescence excited by a nitrogen laser arises principally from the $T^{1}A_{2}$ state and has long and short-lived components. A Hanle effect is observed and associated with the short-lived component; it determines an effective excited state g factor of $2.3 \pm 0.6 \times 10^{-3}$, No effect can be attributed to the long-lived component; this component appears as an apparent continuum in the fluorescence spectrum. The pulsed excitation permits the observation of time delayed Hanle effects. The time-delayed signals are narrowed and show slight oscillations.
