INFRARED SPECTRA OF SOLID $SiH_{4}$ AND $SiD_{4}$.

Abstract

Infrared spectra of $SiH_{4}$ and $SiD_{4}$ in the region of the fundamentals $\nu_{3}$ and $\nu_{4}$ have been obtained at $4^{\circ}K$. The interpretation of the fine structure observed in the spectra is based on the factor group and site group theories. In addition, a 1% solution of $SiD_{4}$ in $SiH_{4}$ revealed interesting features in the spectra in that the degenerate bending mode has been found to split into three bands.
