Abstract

Forty-eight rotational transitions in eleven excited vibrational states of HCN have been measured between 80 GHz and 400 GHz. The populations of these excited states have been produced both thermally and by electrically initiated chemical reactions. A number of perturbations among these excited states have been evaluated and both effective and unperturbed constants calculated. When combined with the present work, the measured absolute frequencies of the HCN laser emissions make possible an interesting analysis of the Coriolis interaction between the $04^{0}O$ and $11^{1} O$ vibrational states.
